Special and Seasonal Worship

While Sunday mornings are integral to our worship as a congregation, we also offer other worship opportunities throughout the year.

The Hanging of the Greens

On the evening of the first Sunday of Advent, our youth lead us in worship as we decorate our sanctuary. Using music and a variety of symbols, including greenery, poinsettias, the Chrismon tree, and the Nativity, we usher in the season.

Christmas Eve Lovefeast

Each year we offer Christmas Eve worship that reflects a Moravian Lovefeast. In keeping with the Moravian custom, we use a brass band, sing Moravian hymns, and light the sanctuary with beeswax candles. Members of our congregation assist in worship wearing traditional Moravian attire.

The Service of Prayers for Healing and Wholeness

This worship encounter has come to be one of our most meaningful gatherings. Focused on Communion and Anointing Prayers, this contemplative worship service weaves together the reading of scripture, music, prayer, the lighting of candles and silence as we find rest and refuge in God’s presence.

Worship During Lent and Holy Week

As we prepare for Easter, we offer during the Season of Lent several worship and devotional opportunities, from a guided devotional entitled “Walking the Way of the Cross,” to a traditional Jewish Seder meal on Palm Sunday, and the Maundy Thursday Service of Darkness.

Easter Sunrise Worship

We welcome Easter morning by gathering near our cemetery to worship together as the sun rises in the East. As worship concludes we may our way to the front yard of our church and decorate the cross with fresh flowers.
