Local and Regional Outreach

Churchland Baptist Church reaches out to our community by being an active volunteer of money, time, and abilities to many worthwhile organizations. You can read about these causes below:

Baptist General Association of Virginia
The Baptist General Association of Virginia provides support for 58 Home Missionaries in Virginia, includes Partnership Missions at Home and Abroad, Children and Family Services, Baptist Student Ministries Colleges, and Retirement Communities. Approximately 68% of our budgeted giving goes to Virginia causes and 32% goes to the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (National).

Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Virginia
Affiliated with national CBC, CBFV’s mission is to network, to empower, and to mobilize Baptist Christians for effective missions and ministry in the name of Christ. CBVA also plans Mission Madness, an intensive weekend mission experience for youth.

CBC Mission Fund
On the Sundays when we share Communion in morning worship, we receive a special offering for our own mission fund, which is used to help people who live in our immediate community with rent and utility expenses.

Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing organization. Since 1976, Habitat has built more than 100,000 houses in more than 80 countries, including some 30,000 houses across the United States.

Help and Emergency Response (HER) Shelter
A local ministry whose mission is to provide a safe, secure place for women and their children who are victims of domestic violence. Shelter, food, clothing, and counseling are provided to those individuals.

Oasis Social Ministry
The Oasis Social Ministry is a charitable, non-profit organization that sponsors a thrift shop and offers food, clothing, and household and financial assistance to the needy. Also operates a soup kitchen Monday through Thursday. On weekends, it provides the facilities for PARC coordinated feeding.

Portsmouth Area Resource Coalition (PARC)
The Portsmouth Area Resources Coalition serves the community by helping people meet basic human needs and providing the opportunity for self-sufficiency. The services of this organization include a shelter for homeless families, transitional housing, and emergency assistance for rent and utilities.

Portsmouth Baptist Association
The Portsmouth Baptist Association is a family of 31 churches and missions who share a common heritage, faith, and practice. The mission of the PBA is “to cooperate in the spirit of The Great Commandment to carry out The Great Commission and support each church in its unique calling and mission.”

Portsmouth Volunteers for the Homeless
Portsmouth Volunteers for the Homeless (PVH) provides emergency shelter for single homeless people. The sheltering season runs from November through March, with sheltering, food support and chaperones being provided by some 30+ local congregations of all denominations. A staffed Daytime Services Center works to move those in need from dependency to self-sufficiency, through supportive services, in cooperation with other organizations in the Portsmouth area.

Tidewater Transportation Ministry
The Tidewater Transportation Ministry (formally known as the Seafarer’s Ministry or Port Ministry) is geared toward individuals involved in the transportations of goods. In the past, the ministry focused on seafarers coming into port on cargo ships, but now has expanded its ministry to those driving tractor trailers. Volunteers provide Bible study and worship, give out Bibles in many translations, and provide basic necessities such as personal care items.
